Location: Guyana
Dates: Specific dates are TBD, but probable timeframes are Feb/Mar 2023 and Nov/Dec 2023. Length of trip can be varied from 1- 2 weeks at discretion of participant.
Purpose: To join with local churches and pastors in telling others about Jesus, and to distribute Bibles, food, clean water and clothing to those in need. Participate in local church services by giving testimonies, leading Bible studies and praying with those who make decisions. A primary focus is to minister in indigenous Amerindian villages located in central Guyana interior areas. The large amount of children and youth, plus access to public schools in these villages, provides unique opportunities to speak in schools and conduct VBS and youth rally type events in nearby local churches. Also, construction of an Amerindian Bible School facility in the near future is a matter of prayer. If approved by Guyana Amerindian Affairs and local tribal councils, construction of the facility could begin in 2023 in the Annai, Guyana area. Meetings with government officials to request construction approval are planned for the Nov 2022 timeframe. Numerous construction missions trips are anticipated given construction approval.
Who: Adults and mature teens
Cost: $300-$500 USD per person per week + Airfare. As of Nov 22, American Airlines roundtrip from Pensacola to Georgetown, Guyana is about $570 per person. Trans Guyana roundtrip flights from Georgetown to Lethem ( accessing interior Amerindian areas) is about $500, thus total airfare is about $1070. The remaining cost of $300-$500 per week per person is for local ground transportation and food.
Deadlines: Once firm dates and ministry emphasis are determined for 2023 mission trips, 6 week’s notice on intent to participate is needed. Contact justin@churchonbayshore.org if interested.
Note: Except for the Georgetown area, conditions are quite primitive. Amerindian ministry in many interior areas has challenges related to lodging, transportation, clean water, power and cell phone operations.
